BLOG ROLL

Want something other than DJ Mag to satisfy your musical needs? Then try these Middle Eastern blogs
Leading the way is surely Disco Ball Breaker (discoballbreaker.com). Led by speaker-hugging fanatic Simone Sebastian, it’s devoted to leftfi eld house, disco and oddball gems and is lovingly - and engagingly - written. Plus they coined the phrase ‘guido house’ to describe the latest nu-disco roller from Munk. Genius. Keeping on the disco tip, but this time upping the camp factor, is Feel My Bicep (feelmybicep.com). A truly world wide effort, this falls into the Middle East category as one of their main contributors now lives in our sandy city. And with a worryingly consistent output, off-the-cuff interviews with disco edit kings like Serge Santiago and some super-rare MP3s, we’re very glad to have them. If you prefer your beats with a bit more variety, then head to The Desert Yeti thedesertyeti. blogspot.com) for some wonky hip hop, funk, soul and glitch pop musings. Literally ran out of the middle of nowhere (well, Ras Al Khaimah), this blog isn’t as updated as the others, but makes up for it in quality – the May 6 Freshly Laced
Funk mix is smoking. For some random musical musings and a few philosophical out takes, then head to Dliberate (dliberate. wordpress.com). The music Recommendations vary from dubstep bangers (Skream’s latest) to left-of-centre beats, while asking such culturally vital questions as ‘Was Batman gay.’ Indeed.
