Raxon, and on, and on

08/07/10

With seven remixes and original tracks slated for release this summer, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Raxon was a full time music producer, and not a recently graduated architect looking to start his Masters. But this 25 year old Abu Dhabi born, Dubai-based DJ is doing just that. And in the process, he’s become one of the city’s most consistent tech-house DJs, slaying dancefl oors as varied as Zinc and 360’s with his euphoric selections.

‘Basically I was really determined to learn how to make music and above all, to learn the science behind it,’ says Raxon. And it’s this behind-the-scenes experience which has helped Raxon on the dancefl oor. ‘Making music is always a key, because you then begin to really understand how it’s made and how much of a challenge it is to produce/create. And therefore you will have more respect for music and become very picky when selecting tunes. It’s not really about dropping hit after hit. The way I personally see it is how every tune works together, their timing and how you communicate with the crowd to create a complete set.’

Thanks to the support and tutelage from his 360 mentor, Mr Mr - not to mention the legion of deep and tech-house producers that come up 360’s stairs on a weekly basis - Raxon can rely on his own dancefl oor ammunition, which in turn has been supported by Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Dibby Dougherty and more. And it’s his Air Race and Send Off EPs (the latter done in conjunction with Mr Mr) that Raxon thinks will hit big this summer. ‘They’re both on a different side of house to each other, but both have amazing remix packages and we’re already getting great feedback on both.’

And carrying on the theme of collaboration, Raxon has worked with (deep breath) Sam Farsio, Afroboogie, Uforiq, Ihmsen, Mr Mr, Greg Stainer, Arnav, Vas Floyd and Mr Mr over recent months. But Raxon is keen to stress that he’s not always going to work as a duo. ‘I’ve had both successfull and unsuccessful collaborations: the unsuccessful ones were when we were thinking in different directions. I wouldn’t say that I work best when collaborating, but I love to make music and it’s fun work with friends.’ Raxon & Mr Mr, ‘The Send Off’, Budai & Vic, ‘Do Ya’ (Raxon remix) and Scope ‘Glow’ (Raxon Remix) are out now. soundcloud.com/raxon
