In the bag Style of EYE

Thought that Swedish music was all Abba and dodgy big room house? Well, the acerbic, acid-doused, cantankerous electro of Linus Eklow, or Style Of Eye, is the antidote to all that. Kicking out a combustible combo of roughneck ghetto house, proper techno and bass boomin’ beats, he’s made a name for igniting discotechs across the map, and cutting fresh tracks for such taste-making stables as Classic, Dirtybird and Tiny Sticks that cast genre considerations to the wind and instead concentrate on rocking the party.

“It’s my restlessness, I always need to do something that feels fresh to me,” admits Linus. “Otherwise I just get bored. Hopefully there’s something that connects the dots between the productions. I don’t aim to be crazy, that’s just how it comes out!” His new double mix CD, ‘Ministry Of Sound Club Presents Style Of Eye’, sees Linus deliver a seditious selection for the renowned London club’s new cooler diffusion mix series. Running the gamut from KiNK’s neo acid house to A1

Bassline’s heavy 4/4 garage beats, via his own powderkeg remixes of Deepgroove and Kid Sister, it’s designed to

drive electro addicts bananas. “I really wanted to show where my heart is at the moment, the music that I respect and that I play,” Linus notes on the musical motivation behind the mix. “I wanted to do a party compilation rather than something for home listening. Sort of a pre-party listen.” Here are his latest tried-and-tested fl oor batterers…

Teki Latex

’Dinosaurs With Guns’ Sound Pelligrino “It’s produced by Noob, he’s one of my favourites at the moment, but I think it’s really interesting how he’s transformed over the years. I think this could be like the next ‘Techno Vocals’, that M-nus tune that was really big. I think it’s going to grow slowly before people really start to recognise it. “It’s all about the crazy story, and for me it’s got that classic sound to it. The kind of quirky vocals are what’s pushing it forward.”

’Tellyfoam’ Boys Noize “This feels really fresh, it’s a great building track, and the club always goes nuts when I play it. It’s how he takes his sound into Boys Noize territory, but it still sounds like him. I’m very happy to hear Boys Noize try something different, it’s defi nitely one of my favourite labels.”

Justin Martin

’Robot Romance’ Dirtybird “His new EP on Dirtybird really blows the speakers for me! This is his fi rst solo material for what seems like too long now. I could have picked any of the tracks off this EP. “If I close my eyes and listen to this, I can almost smell the barbecue in Golden Gate Park [San Francisco] on a Sunday when we used to have those Dirtybird parties. He’s got a really original sound, and this is one to look out for.”

Siriusmo

’High Together’ Monkeytown “He always delivers huge productions, they’re so well put together. This track has a disco feel to it, and it takes me back to when I was a little kid on my skateboard, a summery vibe. It’s hard to explain, it’s just a really happy track! I haven’t played it in my sets, but it’s one of those tunes that’s pushing things forward and doing things that are fresh.”

Brodinski

’Arnold Classics (Tony Senghore Staggering Daggering Remix)’ Grizzly “I could have picked any of the things Tony’s done recently. He’s found a really fresh style, taking his melodies into this year and doing it really well. His tracks always stand out. “For us, Tony Senghore has never been away, but he hasn’t released anything for a really long time. He brought me into the dance community, and what I learnt from him is that it’s all about fi nding the ideas that will take things further and push the boundaries.”

Boys Noize & Erol Alkan

’Waves (Gonzalez Rework)’ Boys Noize “For me, Gonzalez is one of the few producers who can translate a huge dance track into a piano track without losing any of the energy. He’s a genius. Sometimes I open my sets with this, and it’s very energetic, but yet it’s still just the piano.”
